Recipe For Soap Making

There are various types of soaps we use in daily life which are for beauty, washing clothes or cleaning hands. The recipes differ a little but the basic idea about oil and base is there with each kind of soap.

Liquid / Gel Soap

The ingredients are 2 cups soap flakes or grated bar soap, 1/2 gallon water and 2 tbsp glycerin which are to be mixed together in a large pot put over an oven with low heat until the soap is dissolved. It has to be transferred to a jar and should be covered tightly

Mix ingredients together in a large pot over an oven. Set over low heat, stirring occasionally until the soap has dissolved. Transfer to a jar and cover tightly, if you want the gel to be less thick 1 gallon of water can be added.

Vanilla and Almond Soap

This soap removes dirt and oil from the skin, and does not dry the skin up also. Vanilla is used for fragrance and the ground almonds is used for good texture.

The ingredients include 1/3 cup whole almonds, 1 4-ounce bar Castile soap, 1/4 cup distilled water, 1 tablespoon almond oil, and 1/8 teaspoon vanilla fragrance oil.

The almonds are grinded to a fine powder, the soaps are shred, and water is brought to a boil in a saucepan, then the heat is to be reduced. The pan is removed from the heat and almond powder, almond oil, and vanilla fragrance oil, are added while stirring till the mixture is well blended. After that it is to be set in a mold for five hours until it is hardened.

Coconut & Olive Soap

Ingredients for this type of soap 8 oz weight olive oil, 8 oz weight coconut oil, 8 oz weight rendered tallow, 3.49 oz weight sodium hydroxide (pure lye) Red Devil brand 100% lye and 9 fluid ozwater.

Solid liye and liquid are to be combined by stirring, wearing safety goggles and neoprene gloves. Then it is allowed to be cooled to 100° F to 125° F.

All the oils will be combined, and heated gently till the fats melt. Then the temperature can be brought down to 100° F to 125° F.

After this, the lye solution and melted oils are to be carefully combined avoiding splashing. If tracing does not take within 15 minutes and stirring should be done for 5 minutes at every 15 minutes interval.

Tracing is like a slightly thickened custard and will support the drop for several seconds. It can be put onto molds and turned after a few days drying.

Peaches And Cream Bath Bar

Ingredients are Castile soap, 1/4 cup distilled water, 1/4 cup powdered milk, 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil, 1/8 teaspoon peach fragrance oil, 1 drop orange food coloring.

The Castile soap has to be shredded and added to water heated in a heavy saucepan over low heat, till a sticky mass is formed. Then the pan is removed from the heat and powdered milk is added. Sweet almond oil, Peach fragrance oil, food coloring are added with stirring until well-blended. Then it is put into a mold and let set for four hours or until hardened. 

Cinnamon Soap

The ingredients are unscented glycerin soap, 10 drops cinnamon oil and 1 drop red food coloring.

The glycerin soap is melted over low heat until liquefied. Then the pan is removed from the heat and stirred with cinnamon oil and coloring until well mixed. Then the mixture will be put into a mold and let set for three hours or until hardened. It makes a 4-ounce bar. 

Mechanic's Hand Cleanser

Ingredients include 1 cup borax, 1-2 t. pure turpentine, 1 t. sweet orange essential oil and 1 cup ground soap
The turpentine and essential oil are blended well into the borax until no lumps left. Keep it in a wide-mouthed jar.

Soap Ideas  

Leftover soaps can be recycled.
