Basic Steps in Making Handmade Soaps

To start with anything, you need ideas, information, instruction and practice. If you want to learn making handmade soaps then you have to know the basic steps, tips and guidelines to materialize it.

But why should you make your own handmade soaps?

Handmade soaps have their uniqueness and charm than manufactured soaps in the market. You can create handmade soaps by adding your desired fragrance, color and shape, therefore, its feel good, smell nice and look beautiful.

How you make your own handmade soaps?

A Basic Chemical Reaction

Soap is the product of a basic chemical reaction between oils or fats and lye. With this, you can use various ingredients of your choice and liking to make it more luxurious and lovely handmade soap.

If you go back to grandmother’s days, you will get to know that they were using primitive bread, which were made by water and flour and still it was bread, but today different ingredients and methods are used such as eggs, essence, and dry fruits, qualitative grains, yeast, honey, sea salt are added in it. As a result you get delightful and tasteful bread.

This same example can be applied to handmade soap making, if you choose quality oils, add your favorite essential oils or fragrance, and swirl it in beautiful colorant, your soap takes a sudden change, and it looks charming and smells great. It is mind blowing when you use it and that’s make homemade soap more unique than commercial made soap.

There are four Methods and procedures of making Soap at home

Melt and Pour procedure: you melt the pre-made blocks of soap and add your own desired fragrance
Cold Process and procedure: It is the most common procedure to make soap, from scratch with fats and lye
Hot Process - In this process the soap is actually cooked.
Re-batching - grinding the soap bars, adding water or milk, and re-blending the mixture.

Each procedure has advantages, and disadvantages, and variations.
It will be good enough to start with two most popular procedures and methods of making different kinds of soaps.

Ingredients

About two cups of Epsom salt
One cup of sea salt
About 20 drops of rose fragrance oil
One teaspoon of glycerin
About 2-3 drops of colorant

Procedure

Mix the salts together in a large zip top bag; shake it well to get it fine mixture.
Add fragrance oil and glycerin; shake it well.
The add colorant of your choice, drop by drop, and shake it well between the drops and wait till the real tint is achieved.
Finally, pour into a container and cover it.

It is simple and easy, and this is the basic process for homemade soap.
