How to add Fragrance to your Soap

Homemade soaps are undoubtedly very much less expensive than the ones available in stores. With homemade soaps you know hat exactly are the things that are present in your soap. So you need not worry about any harmful contents that may be present. Sops in the shops are very much costly especially if they are scented ones. But you can easily add fragrance of your choice to your homemade soaps.

Shall we see how to add fragrance to your soap?

Fragrance oils are required to add fragrance to your homemade soap. Though there are several ways to add scent to your handmade soaps, using fragrance oils is the most common way to make your soap smell vanilla or mango or any other scent of your wish. Essential oils can also be used to make scented soaps.

Fragrance oils are man-made oils and they are usually steeped in alcohol. Essential oils are distilled out from their plants. Essential oils are more expensive than fragrance oils. But for the extra money, your soap if treated with essential oils, retain the added scent for much longer period.

Most people prefer fragrance oils for adding fragrance to home made soaps. But if used in large quantities, the entire lot may become like mashed potatoes instead of scented soaps. And you have no other choice but to throw the unusable lot.

Fragrance or essential, these oils can be got from local drug store or health store. With technology creeping in every walk of life, you can get these oils even online.

When selecting oils select the ones with a long shelf life. The quantity of oils you use matters a lot.  These oils are heavily concentrated. So, if you use even a little too much, they can do harm to your skin and overpower your nose. So the best way to add oils to your soap is one drop at a time. In this way you can never over use the oils.

The fragrance oil is added once the soap is neutralized. But the soap has to be still hot when you add the oil drops. Fragrance to liquid soaps can be added up to 3%. This will only be around few drops of oils. The standard measurement is roughly .25 ounce of fragrance per pound of soap. If you wish your soap to smell stronger you can go a bit high up. If you wish the scent to be mild, you can reduce it. A typical example is about.5 ounce of Lavender essential oil per pound of soap.

It is essential that you measure the amount of fragrance required before you actually add it. Any guess in this matter would spoil the soap; more importantly might affect your skin.

One advantage with homemade soap is you can mix the scents if you wish. You can have a combination of lavender and rose. The effect can be unique and interesting.

Constant stirring is necessary when adding fragrance oils or essentials oils to the soap. You add a drop of oil, stir, then another drop and you go on stirring all along.

Adding fragrance to your soap is easy and simple. Just a few drops of oil of your scent, your homemade scented soap is ready.
