Everyone has heard about skin types and different products suitable to them. The truth is that there are as many skin types as are number of people. Just as no two people are same, alike no two skin types are same. According to textures, dermatologists have divided skin into four major types.
Normal skinNormal skin is supple and smooth with fine even texture. The skin is neither dry nor greasy, is moist with proper balance of oil and moisture. It is blessed with no spots and blemishes. Skin pores are barely visible and fine. The skin requires mild treatment and reflects good health. It should not be neglected as it is mostly clear and glows with inner health. Neglecting can lead to early signs of aging and wrinkling. Normal skin has no problem of acne but have occasional pimples, which occur before menstruation in women. Some of the essential oils which normal skin needs to be treated with are rose, chamomile, sandalwood, lavender, lemon, and fennel.
Dry skinThis kind of skin has high tendency to chip and have dry scorched appearance. Dry skin is unable to retain moisture and even produces insufficient amount of sebum by its sebaceous glands. It requires constant protection as is prone to wrinkles and lines. During winters it faces numerous problems and needs rich moisturizer and cream daily. Dry skin ages faster than normal and oily skin. This skin looks dull mostly around eyes and on cheeks with expression lines around the corners of the mouth. Dry skin should be treated with Aloe Vera, lavender oil or chamomile.
Oily skinOily skin is result of over secretion of sebum which makers skin surface oily. It is prone to white heads, black heads, pimples and spots. This skin attracts dirt and dust from the environment and is never clear. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly after every few hours. Oily skin has enlarged pores and looks thick and dull colored. The biggest advantage of oily skin is that it ages at much slower rate than other kind of skin type. It needs to be treated with geranium, sage, lemon or lavender for healthy life.
Combination skinIt is the most common type of skin with combination of both dry and oily skin. Mostly forehead, nose and chin are greasy and cheeks and area near eyes are dry. The greasy portion is referred as greasy panel or T zone. This kind of skin needs different kinds of treatments for different zones, as dry zone needs high moisturizing and oily portion requires heavy cleaning.
Sensitive skinThis is the most susceptible kind of skin with fine texture. With changes in climate skin sensitivity reacts differently and is prone to some of major allergies. The most common irritants that affect the human skin are detergents, environmental facts like wind, rain, cold, heat and sun. The word atopic and eczema dermatitis are used for sensitive skin in medical language. Those with sensitive skin should avoid trying new skin products or cosmetics.
