Verbena: Benefits, Using Tips and Side Effects

Introduction

The word verbena was coined out from the Latin word Verbena officinalis. It has a floral and a woody smell; it has a very pleasant odors. Verbena is a wonderful plant which is famous for the flowers it produces which are really beautiful and this attracts a lot of people towards it. Verbena is very expensive oil as they have their own uniqueness. The word verbena refers to sacred boughs and plants used medicinally. This word was first used by the Romans, Greek and the Druids while performing their sacred rituals. This is used largely in Europe and China due to its varying effective and distinguishable properties. It has a restorative, anti-inflammatory and sedative effect on people and it generally is preferred for stress relief, digestion, insomnia and also anxiety. It is also used for other purposes like room freshener, perfumes.

Constituents

Main constituents related with verbena oil are geraniole, citral, limonene and cineole which constitute upto 26% of the oil itself! Among the verbena, lemon verbena is common those which are antiseptic, strong and even have antispasmodic effects.

Buying

Even though this oil is considered to be very expensive, there are a lot of duplicate oils which are available at cheap prices in market but fact is verbena oil is costly so getting in cheaper rates means purchasing duplicate of it. And appears similar like Verbena oil but be is careful that you do not get cheated by shoppers. They should not be bought for instead of the pure verbena oil as these may contains many additives that might cause harm when used. Always purchase pure verbena oil and check out whether they are diluted or stretched as this usually occurs due to their expensive nature. The additive which is added to this is the very cheaply available lemon grass oil which will have an adverse effect on the treatments.

Properties and Usage

Verbena oils are used in various purposes like for health, freshener, reliever and many others it is normally mixed up with lavender for different purposes. Verbena oils are known for their calming properties that relieve stress and helps with insomnia. It makes a person relaxed and it is the best treatment which is available for stress related sleep disorders. For such a process, the only thing to be done is to add 3 drops of the lavender and verbena oil to the diffuser which is kept near the bed and then the next step is to put the lights off. Apart from this they can also be used as a room freshener which makes whole room fresh with its woody smell and floral fragrance and one may feel relaxed in room after using it. For these 10 drops of verbena oil is mixed with 2 ounces of distilled water and stores them in a spray bottle. Spraying this will produce a sweet smell that refreshes the entire house with its odour. It can even be sprayed over bed sheets and pillows to remove the stale smell that might develop in them. It can be used in offices which will help in reliving down mental stress and tiredness.

Useful for women

Verbena oil is associated with uterine muscle contractions as after some age muscles of woman loosen down and after pregnancy maximum ladies face this problem, so it is always advisable not to take verbena oils near pregnant ladies, but it is recommended to use it near them while delivery as it stimulates women's stamina. They even can produce adverse on the skin in the form of allergies or irritations. Irritations differ with the sensitivity of the skin. So for that, always a patch test apply in small portion wait for while and see result of it if any adverse effect occurs that it should not be used. So, it is advised before handling them as they might cause certain problems even if blended with other oils.

Due to their expensive nature, it is very difficult to get one for therapeutic use, but their aroma can be enjoyed by using perfumes which has verbena as a major content in them and have very pleasant smell of flower which helps in refreshing mood and makes feel close to nature.
