Marjoram: Benefits, Using Tips and Side Effects

Marjoram is a cold-sensitive recurrent herb or undershrub with sweet pine and citrus flavors. It is also known as Sweet Marjoram or Knotted Marjoram and Majorana hortensis. Sweet or Knotted Marjoram is not an annual, but is generally treated as such, as the plants - native to Portugal - will not stand the winter elsewhere, so must be sown every year. Seeds may be sown, for an early provide, in March, on a gentle hotbed and again, in a warm position, in light soil, in the open ground during April. Plants do well if sown in April, even if they are long in germinating. The seed is small and must be sown either in drills, 9 inches apart, or transmit, on the surface, trodden, raked evenly and watered in dry weather. Marjoram is specific herb that requires specific environmental condition for its culture and specific soil. And so, marjoram plants are to be kept indoor in winter for clipping root in water.

On account of the slowness of germination, care should be taken that the seedlings are not choked with weeds, which being of as much as quicker growth are likely to do so if not destroyed. The hand should remove them, until the plants are large enough to utilize the small hoe with safety. Seed may be sown early in May. In common with other aromatic herbs, such as Fennel, Basil, Dill, etc., it is not matter to the attacks of birds, as many other seeds are. When about an inch high, thin out to 6 to 8 inches apart each way. It begins to flower in July, when it is cut for use, and gets its name of Knotted Marjoram from the flowers being collected into roundish close heads like knots. The plant is proper to the sandy soil of the country. That is the reason that marjoram plants cannot be cultured in some countries that do not share ocean lines. However, if the modern technology is use for cultivation the specific environmental and soil requirement for this plant it can be cultivated easily. Manual labor is necessary with modern technology as by hand, seedling is choked with weeds and by hand they must be removed to get better growth. It is necessary to collect the marjoram flower form specific level that is near the close head of the stem, which must be keep in mind.

The Marjoram plants are obtained either by division of clumps in winter, or from seeds planted in parallel lines 2 meters apart, between the almond and olive trees; and the soil, being of essential worked for cultivation of the trees, this also serves to fertilize the Marjoram. One cutting of plant-clumps is best; to bring it indoors for the winter, get clippings to root in water. In the warmest of climates, you may obtain another round of growth by cutting the plant back hard in the fall. The delicate floral aroma of marjoram lends itself to soaps, pomanders and herbal wreaths. Ornamental varieties such as the variegated or creeping types build attractive additions to the garden but are less flavorful than true sweet marjoram. Marjoram herbs are use wide in kitchen not only to add fragrance to the meal but it also has therapeutic effect on the organism.

Marjoram actually shines in the kitchen. Dried, the herb holds that lovely fragrance and its flavor greatly better than other herbs do when dried. Marjoram combines well with other seasonings and will improve so many different dishes. Consider it a natural for meat dishes but do not hesitate to use marjoram to season vegetables served cooked or raw, fish and chicken or dishes with eggs and/or cheese. It is especially good quality along with other herbs in beef stew. Marjoram may use in aching muscles, amenorrhea, bronchitis, chilblains, colic, coughing, excessive sex drive, flatulence, hypertension, muscle cramps, neuralgia, rheumatism, sprains, strains, stress, ticks. Marjoram herbs have good therapeutic effect on the organism by normalizing nutritional balance in the organism. Marjoram herb have analgesic , anti-inflammatory , anti-depressive, spasmolytic effect helps to recover from the problems like hypertension, bronchitis, neuralgia, etc. Marjoram is easy to use it can be used as part of the meal so patient do not have to go through the bitter taste as of the allopathic medications.
