Lavender: Benefits, Using Tips and Side Effects

Perhaps one of the most popular essential oils, lavender essential oil is somewhat of all-purpose aromatherapy oil but is often used to relieve stress. While it is well-liked for this purpose, it actually has many medicinal uses and is said to help relieve anything from warts to joint pain. With regard to this, lavender essential oil is almost a poster child for aromatherapy, the use of different natural oils (defined by their smell) to alleviate pains and conditions. Of course, there are many people who may be skeptical about the merits of lavender essential oil and aromatherapy in general. Lavender is a scent that has a long tradition in perfumes and Aromatherapy. It was used since many centuries for various purposes. Even the Romans used its antiseptic feature to rinse and cleanse their wounds. Hardly a century ago, mostly all the colognes contained lavender oil. Today it is slowly regaining its lost glory back and it is gaining acceptance throughout the world. With so many uses, Lavender oil is proving itself to be a must for today's stressful lifestyles.

Because the lavender oil is extracted in this way it regularly captures the absolute essence of the lavender plant itself and normally on a few drops of this highly concentrated oil is required to reap its full therapeutic benefits. Normally lavender oil is clear in colour but rarely may it have a yellow tint to it. Although many people think because it is called Lavender Oil it will actually be an oily substance, really it is one of the thinnest consistencies to be found among all the essential oils that are available.

As the stability of lavender oil is so thin the smell will often not be too strong and it is found to be one of the most relaxing scents to be found of all the oils used in aromatherapy. Not only does it smell fresh, but also it is sweet with a slight floral aroma to it. Some persons have even suggested that the oil smells a little fruity. As with most essential oils when being used in aromatherapy, lavender oil should be diluted with carrier oil such as sweet almond, apricot kernel or grape seed oil. Once the lavender oil has been diluted with the carrier oil it usually is applied to a person's skin for best absorption. It can be applied to the skin as well as can be used by inhaling. Once the lavender oil molecules have entered the lungs then they are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and will result in soothing whatever ailments you are experiencing at the time of treatment.

Certainly there are a number of common ailments which aromatherapy using lavender oil may help to treat are as follows: Acne, Allergies, Anxiety, Asthma, Athlete's Foot, Flatulence and Itching. Lavender oil can be used to help in the treatment of bruises, burns, colic and chicken pox and those people who have cuts, or are suffering from depression or have earache may also find lavender oil beneficial. It is also an effective natural pest repellent. But along with these Benefits care should be taken that it should not be used through the near the beginning stages of pregnancy. If you suffer from low blood pressure then you will have to use extreme caution while using it.

Always use blended oil massaged into the skin for a soothing and relaxing experience. This oil can be a great massage oil as well as aromatic oil for reducing nervousness. Just put a few drops in a hot bath and drench yourself to relaxation. If you are having problem with your skin or want a unique facial, lavender oil can do the trick. The oil has been in use since many years in aromatherapy to ease tension, tiredness and feelings of depression. Lavenders are gentle yet they have potent therapeutic properties that allow it to be used for burns and insect bites. Make sure you purchase blended oils from a trustworthy source and never take any essential oils internally unless you are under the care of a licensed professional. Every home needs a lavender oil to keep itself bay from many common diseases and to improve the ambience of the house with the sweet smelling Lavender oils.
