Candle Making: How to Make A Double Molded CandleA double molded candle provides an interesting variation to the normal candle, can provide lots of fun, and also help you to make the candle more attractive. For example you can use different colors for the inner and outer molds to give a different effect. Making a double molded candle is not very different from making any other candle. In order to make a double molded candle you’ll have to first make the inner or core portion of the candle and then the outer one. Take enough wax for both the candles and heat them in a double boiler to a sufficiently high temperature that could be in the range of 175 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit (80 to 85 degrees Celsius). Add a small quantity of stearic acid (about half a teaspoon) to the molten wax, and then the fragrance and color of your choice. By the time you have finished doing all this, the temperature would have dropped, and you’ll have to re-heat the wax to the desired temperature once again. When the wax is heated to the right temperature pour it into a mold that you have prepared. The mold could be any suitable container. To make it easy to remove the candle from the mold once it solidifies, you can coat the inside with non-flammable oil. For the inner candle you should also attach the wick that can be threaded in directly from the bottom or attached with a wick holder. When you are pouring the wax into the mold you will find that bubbles form in the molten wax. You can make a few holes for the gases to escape once the wax cools a little. You’ll then have to pour some more wax after this, to close the escape holes that you have made. Leave some gap at the top of the mold, and avoid pouring the inner candle to the full height of the mold, so that when you pour the outer candle the entire inner candle can be covered. You can leave about one inch of wick sticking out for this purpose. Once the inner candle solidifies, you are ready for pouring the outer candle. Heat the wax to a slightly higher temperature than that of the pouring temperature used for the inner candle, and pour the wax into the mold up to its full height. Before heating the remaining portion of the wax, you can add a different color to it than the one you used for the inner candle. In that case keep aside a portion of the wax while coloring it for the inner candle, and use the uncolored portion for the outer candle. As you can see, if you have made single molded candles already, there’s only a small change that you need to make in the procedure that is already familiar to you. As for the others, the entire procedure is fairly simple to learn, and you can learn to make both single and double molded candles. VISITOR COMMENTS on "How to Make A Double Molded Candle":
